The romantic month of February brings with it cold days. Just barely above freezing most days and with a consistant layer of snow on the ground getting out of bed in the mornings is not the most appealing of ideas and the idea of having someone to snuggle up to under a nice warm blanket is most appealing.

[ ]``The Mormon Pioneer Memorial Monument
On the outskirts of downtown SLC lies the final resting places of Brigham Young and many other important Mormons. In the middle of the green is a breathtaking statue of a man and his wife, honoring the six thousand Mormon pioneers who lost their lives whilst trying to reach Utah.

Covered in trees and picnic tables with plenty of fun activities including softball, horseshoes, volleyball, and a playground for the little ones, Washington Park is a great place to hang out with the family or friends. But if that's not your style you can come during the winter and tube down the big snowy hill or cuddle up with someone special around the fire pits by night.

Liberty Park was at one time the property of Brigham Young and today you can still see various historical buildings and markers throughout the park. Today it has all the typical park things as well as a swimming pool, a fountain children can play in, and a drum circle that performs from spring to early fall on Sundays. Tracy Aviary is also located in Liberty Park. On July 24th Liberty Park is the site of the Pioneer Day fireworks.

Home of the fastest ice on earth the olympic oval is open to the public for skating. Figure skating lessons and hockey leagues are available at the oval. In addition the oval is surrounded by a four hundred forty-two meter running track and boasts an indoor soccer field where several high school, co-ed, and adult leagues practice.

Hogle Zoo is the largest zoo in the state of Utah. Originally located in Liberty Park it moved to its current location in 1931. This Utahn treasure is home to over 230 species.

Only weeks before the start of the Great Depression a German immigrant, Gustav Weller, opened a bookstore called Zion's in an old furniture store. Four locations and two generations later Gus' grandson Sam now runs the store and has for over a decade. Sam Weller's stocks huge quantities of books, not only new but used and rare editions as well. The staff is all very knowledgeable and helpful; you can't leave without a book in your hand.

The Salt Lake Art Center is an interesting looking building with a giant glass pyramid atop the entrance. Their contemporary art exhibits challenge visitors views of culture and as such the museum has a reputation for being one of the best in Utah and even the country. In addition to their gallery the center hosts lectures and shows films as well as offering ceramics and photography classes.

A unique natural phenomenon the Great Salt Lake is one of the perks of living in the area. Boat owners can keep their boat in the marina in the Great Salt Lake Park and take it out as they wish. One can also sail or drive via the causeway out to Antelope Island.

Whether looking to do some canoeing, take a walk, or bike through the wetlands the Jordan River Parkway is an excellent trail to follow. Picnic tables, canoe marinas, and restrooms are available along the trail.

Like most cities however Salt Lake homes are not affordable... at least not if you want anything decent. For the most part homes are really only affordable if you have a good paying job and are prepared for a morgage. Apply inside for a house.
